I'm committed.
Or, perhaps I should be committed! This might not be the brightest of ideas, knowing my schedule and propensity to procrastinate, but..but...I'm going to give it a shot.
I'm going to do 31 for 21. October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month. I'm going to make 31 posts regarding that pesky extra 21st chromosome. (I hope)
Quoting one of my favorite literary characters, I'm going to "take chances, make mistakes, get messy!"
(how many of you know who that is?)
Time to make a list. Anyone have a request?

Requests? YES! I recently adopted a boy with DS. He is 10 years old and I am homeschooling him. I would love to learn more about the oral-motor stuff you were writing about a while back (sorry to not be more specific or articulate.) I also would love to learn what you think the most important skills for our children to have in life are and whether or not you think that worksheets and typical "schoolish" activities translate well into "real life" for our kids with DS...and if not, what does? I also would love to hear about cardiac follow-up. Tim had two heart surgeries before the age of two, but has been healthy since. I am wondering about chances for needing further intervention there. Also I would love to hear your opinion about same-age interactions vs. same-level interactions. Tim is 10 but functioning at a preschool level. I have noticed that he totally tunes out other 10 year olds (with the exception of my other 10 year old son), but will engage in play with toddlers and preschoolers. I'm sure I have more questions, but those are the ones that came to me right away. I'll be looking forward to every post this month. I'm so new at parenting a child with DS that I need to learn everything!
I'm doing this too - good luck! 31 for 21 ugh! ;-)
Hurrah Beth! We can do this matey! I'd like to request that you are yourself as usual; lots of anecdotes, photos, and another fab vid of Hannah's cooking would be sooo appreciated - the last one was brilliant. She's so talented, that girl of yours!
The quote's from Ms. Frizzle isn't it? :)
